The Indiana Pacers and the Brooklyn Nets will both be trying to pick up a win on Wednesday when they battle at Barclays Center.

ABOUT THE PACERS (0-3): Guard Malcolm Brogdon is trying to keep Indiana afloat while it waits for star Victor Oladipo to return from a knee injury and he recorded his third straight double-double in the loss at Detroit. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old standout was just 5-for-17 from the floor as the Pacers shot 41.5 percent and hit only 6-of-21 from 3-point range. “We had opportunities to win that game,” Brogdon told reporters. “We took good shots, we missed them, and they made some tough shots. … Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way.”

ABOUT THE NETS (1-2): Irving pulled into Tuesday’s action leading the NBA in scoring (37.7) and he received some solid support at Memphis in the form of Caris LeVert, who scored a season-high 27 points. DeAndre Jordan made his first start at center for Brooklyn and finished with season highs of 12 rebounds and two blocks while making his only three shots. The switch didn’t seem to affect fellow center Jarrett Allen, who also established season highs with 14 points and 13 rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench.

Oddsmakers opened the Nets as 3-point favorites versus the Pacers, while the game’s total opened at 219.

The Brooklyn Nets have endured an emotional roller coaster over the first few games, while the Indiana Pacers have followed only a downward trajectory. Both teams will try to climb out of the depths following difficult losses when they meet Wednesday in Brooklyn.

The Nets followed up their first win in the Kyrie Irving era with a 134-133 overtime defeat at the buzzer in Memphis, already their second one-point OT setback of the young season. “Any time you lose at the buzzer, it’s a tough loss,” Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson told the media in Memphis. “To sum it up, we could never get stops. I don’t know how many straight possessions they scored, but I never felt like we could get the requisite stops to win this game.” The Pacers are the only Eastern Conference team without a win after a 96-94 loss at Detroit in which they held a four-point lead with under two minutes remaining. Forward Domantas Sabonis had 21 points and 14 rebounds in the defeat.
