The San Francisco Giants will be trying to extend a winning streak on Friday when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.

The Giants will trot Johnny Cueto out to the mound in this one. Right hander Cueto has a 5-7 record and a 4.20 ERA this season.

Starting this game for the Pirates will be Gerrit Cole. The right hander has a 4.11 ERA to go along with a 6-6 record this season.

Cueto enjoyed his finest effort in June but remained winless since May 28 with a no-decision Saturday against the New York Mets, permitting only a solo home run among the five hits and three walks across seven innings. The two-time All-Star has already allowed more homers this year through 100 2/3 innings than he did in 219 2/3 frames in 2016 (15). Cueto has thrived in his career against Pittsburgh, going 19-4 with a 2.10 ERA and 29 starts with four complete games and two shutouts.

Cole has given up exactly one run en route to victory in each of his last three outings, including at St. Louis on Saturday when he held the Cardinals to five hits and two walks in six frames. Outside of an uncharacteristic four-game stretch from May 22-June 8 when he allowed 23 runs in 19 1/3 innings, the 26-year-old UCLA product has posted a 2.44 ERA over his other 12 outings. Cole has been even more dominant in his career against the Giants, going 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA in four starts.

Oddsmakers currently have the Pirates listed as 128-moneyline favorites versus the Giants, while the game’s total is sitting at 8½.

Even as the Pittsburgh Pirates struggle to make a move in the wide-open National League Central, Andrew McCutchen is doing everything in his power to lead the charge. The former NL MVP looks to wrap up a torrid June on Friday when the Pirates host the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game series.

Pittsburgh (37-42) hasn’t been able to return to .500 since it was 6-6 following a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs from April 14-16, although the club has shown signs of progress since slipping a season-low nine games below the break-even mark on June 9 by going 11-7 since. McCutchen went 3-for-3 with a run-scoring single in Thursday’s rubber-match victory over Tampa Bay, lifting his impressive numbers this month to .398 with six home runs and 23 RBIs. After dropping 12 of their previous 13 entering Monday, the Giants finally gave themselves something to feel good about by taking three straight from Colorado for their first sweep of the season. Building on that success figures to be difficult for San Francisco, which is 4-11 on the road this month and 13-30 away from AT&T Park in 2017.

Pittsburgh won its last outing, a 4-0 result against the Rays on June 29. Bettors who backed the Pirates at 100 on the moneyline won on the day, and the total score (4) sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.

San Francisco was a 5-3 winner in its last match on the road against the Rockies. They won as +108 underdogs, while the total score of 8 made winners of UNDER bettors.
