The fans at Schollmaier Arena will be treated to a game between the Richmond Spiders and the TCU Horned Frogs when they take their seats on Tuesday.

ABOUT RICHMOND (22-12): At this time of year, coaches like to rely on seniors, and for Mooney, that’s pretty easy when he has a scoring duo like Cline and Jones. While playing in their final home game against Oakland, they combined for 42 points – giving them a chance to play in their home state of Texas for another shot at New York and the NIT semifinals. The Spiders must have a big performance from the duo against the Horned Frogs, with Jones (team-best 68 3-pointers) and Cline (48) looking to stretch TCU’s defense with their long-range shooting.

ABOUT TCU (21-5): One of the keys to TCU’s success in the postseason has been young players stepping up – including freshman Desmond Bane, who helped defeat top-seeded Kansas in the Big 12 tournament by sinking three free throws with two seconds left, then connected on four in the last 24 seconds of overtime in Sunday’s win over top-seeded Iowa. Bane started against the Hawkeyes in place of the sidelined Jaylen Fisher and played a season-high 37 minutes, finishing with 13 points and a career-high four assists. Also stepping up in Fisher’s absence was sophomore Alex Robinson, who moved to the point guard spot and finished with 19 points and a career-best 11 assists, giving Dixon confidence his team can continue to win without his star freshman.

Oddsmakers currently have the Horned Frogs listed as 7-point favorites versus the Spiders, while the game’s total is sitting at 149.

A battle of Cinderellas is on tap in an NIT quarterfinal contest Tuesday, when fourth-seeded TCU hosts sixth-seeded Richmond with a trip to Madison Square Garden on the line. The Horned Frogs knocked off top-seeded Iowa on the road in overtime to advance to this stage, while the Spiders pulled out a four-point win over visiting Oakland in its second-round contest.

Richmond is in the quarterfinals for the second time in three years, with the team falling short of the semifinals in 2015 as it lost at home to Miami. Coach Chris Mooney has lots of experience on which to rely, with his top two scorers – T.J. Cline (18.1 points) and ShawnDre’ Jones (17) – both being seniors. Tuesday marks the one-year anniversary of TCU hiring Jamie Dixon as coach, and the program certainly is happy with that decision as it has recorded its most victories since 2004-05. The Horned Frogs give up 70.6 points a game, but they also can put points on the board, averaging 74.2 with seven players scoring between six and 13.7.

TCU was a 94-92 winner in its last match on the road against Hawkeyes. They covered the +2.5-point spread as underdogs.

Richmond won its last outing, a 87-83 result against Grizzlies on March 19. They failed to cover in that game as a -4.5-point favorite.
