The USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins will both be trying to pick up a win on Thursday when they battle at T-Mobile Arena.

ABOUT UCLA (28-3): Lonzo Ball will get his first postseason exposure at the college level and more eyes will surely be on him than any other player at T-Mobile Arena. He finished the regular season by delivering a season-high 14 assists against Washington State on Saturday and looks poised to post his first triple-double of this season after narrowly missing several times. Ball had 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in the first game against USC this season, and 15 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the second.

ABOUT USC (24-8): Jordan McLaughlin likely will spend time guarding Ball, and Ball can’t relax on defense either, as McLaughlin had another sensational performance in the first round, finishing with 11 points, six assists and no turnovers. In the last four games, the junior point guard is averaging 14.2 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor and has 35 assists with just six giveaways. McLaughlin should be eager to play well against Ball and the Bruins after combining to shoot 6-for-21 in the two earlier games this season.

Oddsmakers currently have the Bruins listed as 9½-point favorites versus the Trojans, while the game’s total is sitting at 167½.

UCLA suffered a massive scare when freshman T.J. Leaf had to be helped off the floor eight days ago, but Bruins coach Steve Alford said he “fully anticipates” Leaf will be ready for the Pac-12 tournament quarterfinal Thursday night against crosstown rival USC in Las Vegas. Leaf’s value to third-seeded UCLA is deep and varied, as the 6-10 forward is second on the team in scoring (16.3) and rebounding (8.4) and is the team’s most accurate 3-point shooter (46.2 percent), giving the fifth-seeded Trojans a lot to guard against.

The Bruins finished the regular season ranked third in the coaches’ poll and defeated every team on their schedule, avenging losses to USC, Arizona and Oregon the second time around. The Bruins could certainly rest Leaf and still qualify for the NCAA Tournament, but UCLA has won this event just once in the last seven seasons and could use some positive recognition after underachieving last season and during parts of this year. The Trojans didn’t let a 10-point deficit late in the first half of their first-round game against Washington get them rattled, instead slicing it to two at the half and then passing the Huskies for good with about 17 1/2 minutes to go in the 78-73 victory. USC lost to UCLA on Feb. 18 at Pauley Pavilion, but before that had won four in a row in the series.

UCLA won its last outing, a 77-68 result against Cougars on March 04. They failed to cover in that game as a -23.5-point favorite.

USC won its last outing, a 78-73 result against Huskies on March 08. They failed to cover in that game as a -12.5-point favorite.
