The Florida Gators and the Vanderbilt Commodores will both be trying to pick up a win on Saturday when they battle at Memorial Gymnasium.

ABOUT FLORIDA (24-6, 14-3 SEC): While the win over Arkansas on Wednesday was cause enough for celebration for the Gators, the fact that freshman forward Keith Stone helped stave off a rally was the icing on the cake. Stone, who had scored two points in six games since returning from a viral infection, finished with eight in nine minutes of action against Arkansas – including some timely baskets as the Razorbacks were rallying in the second half. With starting center John Egbunu out for the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, Stone’s re-emergence could be a major factor for the Gators up front going forward.

ABOUT VANDERBILT (16-14, 9-8): Needing a big win for their resume, the Commodores were within a few minutes of recording it against Kentucky on Tuesday before losing by six points. Now, the NCAA Tournament may be out of reach unless Vanderbilt can beat Florida a second time, then win a few games in the SEC tournament, which isn’t out of the realm of possibility. For his part, Drew is trying not to put too much emphasis on Saturday’s contest, preferring his team try to be loose and play its best while letting the tournament talk wait until next weekend.

Oddsmakers currently have the Gators listed as 4-point favorites versus the Commodores, while the game’s total is sitting at 140½.

No. 12 Florida looks to exact some revenge – and maybe earn a piece of the Southeastern Conference regular-season crown – when it visits Vanderbilt for the regular-season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon. The Gators, who fell to the Commodores 68-66 in late January, are one game behind first-place Kentucky in the league standings, with the Wildcats playing at Texas A&M on Saturday.

KeVaughn Allen leads the Gators’ offensive attack, averaging 13.9 points and shooting 40.4 percent from 3-point range. Florida has been solid at the defensive end, ranking second in the SEC in opponents’ 3-point field-goal percentage (.305), but the Commodores rank first in the league in shooting from beyond the arc and hit 10 3-pointers in the first meeting between the teams. Even the 7-1 Luke Kornet (13.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 blocks) can connect from long distance, making him a matchup nightmare for any team. Matthew Fisher-Davis (14.4 points) and Jeff Roberson (11.1, 7.1 rebounds) help give coach Bryce Drew plenty of scoring options against a Florida defense that has held teams to 66.2 points this season.
