Senior forward Kennedy Meeks posted 15 points and 14 rebounds against Virginia Tech for his eighth double-double of the campaign.

ABOUT MIAMI (13-6, 3-4): Junior guard Ja’Quan Newton poured in a career-high 23 points in the victory over Boston College and stands second on the team in scoring (15.1) while dishing out a team-high 3.9 assists. Bovada Sportsbook currently has the Tar Heels listed as 6-point favorites versus the Hurricanes, while the game’s total is sitting at 149 according to GTBETS.

Miami won its last outing, a 78-77 result against Eagles on January 25. They failed to cover in that game as a -15.5-point favorite.

North Carolina was a 91-72 winner in its last match at home against Hokies. They covered the -15-point spread as favorites.

Miami (Fla.) begins a rough stretch to end the regular season with six of 11 games against ranked teams when it hosts No. 6 North Carolina in an ACC matchup Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes had lost four of five before holding on for a 78-77 victory over Boston College on Wednesday and will get a bit of a break as first-place North Carolina must go after its eighth straight win on just a day and half of rest.

“I was talking to myself, like my high school coach used to do, and I was praying the rosary,” Miami coach Jim Larranaga told reporters after the win over BC. “I said three Our Fathers, three Hail Mary’s and a couple Glory Bes.” The Hurricanes may need divine intervention against the Tar Heels, who rolled over Virginia Tech 91-72 on Thursday night to maintain their perch atop the ACC. Justin Jackson scored 26 points and drained five from behind the arc in the victory as North Carolina scored at least 90 for the 13th time this season and fifth in six games. The Tar Heels have won the last two meetings, but lost the previous four against the Hurricanes.
