The fans at McKeon Pavilion will be treated to a game between the Pacific Tigers and the Saint Mary’s-California Gaels when they take their seats on Thursday.

ABOUT PACIFIC (8-11, 2-4 WCC): Senior guard T.J. Wallace (team highs of 13.4 points and 3.6 assists per game) recorded a season-high 25 points and career-best 10 assists in a 79-74 victory over Pepperdine on Jan. 12 before registering only nine and two versus San Francisco. Sophomore forwards Jack Williams (8.9 points, 6.6 rebounds) and Anthony Townes (8.1, 6.3, club-best 58.2 percent from the field) are the biggest reasons why the Tigers are third in the WCC in rebound margin at plus-1.8 in conference games, although well behind the Gaels’ WCC-leading plus-12.8. Junior forward Ray Bowles (13.1 points) shoots better from 3-point range (37.2 percent) than from the field (33.9) while averaging a team-most 33.6 minutes.

ABOUT SAINT MARY’S (15-2, 5-1): The Gaels were ninth nationally through Tuesday’s games in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.53 with the backcourt of senior Joe Rahon and junior Emmett Naar mostly responsible for the gaudy number. Rahon (WCC-most 5.8 assists) and Naar (5.6) combine for a 2.73 ratio while averaging 8.1 and 9.6 points, respectively. Naar also shoots a team-best 46.5 percent from 3-point range while senior forward Dane Pineau (6.7 points, 6.1 rebounds) converts a team-best 63.9 percent from the floor with Landale making 63 percent and junior forward Calvin Hermanson (12.2) at 49 percent.

bovada-logo-top-book currently has the Gaels listed as 22-point favorites versus the Tigers, while the game’s total is sitting at 143.5 according to MyBookie-White logo -70x40.

Saint Mary’s-California was a 79-56 loser in their most recent outing on the road against Bulldogs. They failed to cover the +5-point spread as underdogs.

Last time out for Pacific, they were a 72-51 loser as they battled Dons on the road. They failed to cover in the match as a +8.5-point underdog.

With the pecking order seemingly clear in the West Coast Conference, No. 23 Saint Mary’s tries for its eighth straight victory over Pacific when it hosts the Tigers on Thursday. The Gaels rode a nine-game winning streak into their contest at No. 4 Gonzaga on Saturday, but exited with a 79-56 loss and should be favored to win their next seven contests before getting a rematch Feb. 11 with the only undefeated Division I team in the nation.

Pacific should not pose much of a challenge for Saint Mary’s as the Gaels try for their 14th consecutive victory over WCC opponents other than Gonzaga. Saint Mary’s boasts the nation’s No. 2 scoring defense at 57.9 points despite giving up a season high total against the Bulldogs and are the top field-goal percentage defense team in WCC games at 41.6 despite allowing Gonzaga to shoot 64.7 percent. The Gaels also have 6-11 junior center Jock Landale (17.3 points, 9.5 rebounds per game), who hopes to bounce back after recording only 10 points and six rebounds versus Gonzaga. The Tigers, coached by former University of Arizona and NBA star Damon Stoudamire, are coming off a 72-51 loss at San Francisco on Saturday for their fourth setback in six games since beginning their WCC campaign.
