The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Wisconsin Badgers will both be trying to pick up a win on Tuesday when they battle at Kohl Center.

ABOUT RUTGERS (11-2): The Scarlet Knights have four players scoring double digits in a balanced attack fueled by junior forward Deshawn Freeman, who averages 12.2 points and a team-best 9.5 rebounds. Junior guard Nigel Johnson averages a team-high 12.7 points, while junior guard Mike Williams (11.4) and sophomore Corey Sanders (10.7 points, team-best 3.8 assists) are the other two double-digit scorers. Rutgers has been tenacious on the boards by outrebounding foes by an average of 11.4 per game but is shooting just 30 percent from 3-point range.

ABOUT WISCONSIN (11-2): The Badgers also outrebound opponents by a large margin (14.1) with most of the work being done by sophomore forward Ethan Happ, who averages 12.9 points and a team-best 9.5 boards. Senior guard Bronson Koenig averaged a team-best 14.6 points, while senior forward Nigel Hayes is contributing 13.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and a team-leading 3.4 assists per game. Freshman reserve guard D’Mitrik Trice has carved himself a role and is 18-of-30 from 3-point range while averaging 6.7 points per game.

Oddsmakers currently have the Badgers listed as 18-point favorites versus the Scarlet Knights, while the game’s total is sitting at 128.

Wisconsin is settling into the season nicely and the No. 14 Badgers look to record their eighth consecutive victory when they host Rutgers in the Big Ten opener for both teams on Tuesday. Wisconsin suffered November losses to ranked Creighton and North Carolina squads but has won by an average of 27.4 points during its winning streak.

The Badgers closed their non-conference slate with a 90-37 drubbing of Florida A&M and received a pleasant surprise when senior forward Vitto Brown collected a season-best eight rebounds to go with his 11 points. “I was just getting tired of being 6-8 and in good shape and not getting any rebounds,” Brown, averaging eight points and 3.8 rebounds, told reporters: “I just felt like I was kind of useless for the team in that regard. I wanted to make a mark on the game. That was my main focus heading into the game was to try to crash the glass a little bit more.” The Scarlet Knights are making progress after going 7-25 last season during their 10th consecutive losing campaign but fell 72-61 to Seton Hall in their most-recent contest. “We’re close,” first-year Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell told reporters. “We have to learn how to finish some things and we have to do a better job of executing down the stretch. You saw some minutes there, where we have a chance to be a really good basketball team.”

Wisconsin was a 90-37 winner in its last match at home against Rattlers. They covered the -38.5-point spread as favorites.

Last time out for Rutgers, they were a 72-61 loser as they battled Pirates on the road. They failed to cover in the match as a +8.5-point underdog.
