The St. John’s Red Storm and the Syracuse Orange will both be trying to pick up a win on Wednesday when they battle at Carrier Dome.
ABOUT ST. JOHN’S (5-7): Marcus LoVett (17.8 points) and Shamorie Ponds (16.9) are a dynamic scoring duo with each shooting over 80 percent from the foul line and over 40 percent from 3-point range. Bashir Ahmed (11.8 points) is the third-leading scorer for the Red Storm and scored in double figures in five straight games before a six-point thud in Sunday’s loss to Penn State. Malik Ellison led St. John’s with 22 points in that one and went 5-of-6 from long range in setting a new career high.

ABOUT SYRACUSE (7-4): Freshman guard Tyus Battle had 18 points – the second-highest scoring effort of his young career – in the win over Eastern Michigan, while seven of his teammates also scored in double figures. Andrew White III (16.2 points) is the leading scorer on the squad and has scored at least 10 points in every game while making multiple 3-pointers in 10 of 11 contests. Tyler Lydon (11.8 points) is 5-of-5 from 3-point range over the last two games and is 16-of-20 from the field over that stretch.

bovada-logo-top-book currently has the Orange listed as 13-point favorites versus the Red Storm, while the game’s total is sitting at 148 according to MyBookie-White logo -70x40.

Syracuse won its last outing, a 105-57 result against Eagles on December 19. They covered in that game as a -12.5-point favorite.

St. John’s lost its last outing, a 92-76 result against Nittany Lions on December 18. They failed to cover in that game as a -3-point favorite.

Syracuse showed the ability to bounce back its last time out, but consistency is still a long-term goal for the Orange. Jim Boeheim’s squad looks to post rare back-to-back victories when it hosts St. John’s on Wednesday.

Since starting the season 4-0, Syracuse has yet to win consecutive games, losing four of six before a resounding 105-57 rout of Eastern Michigan on Monday. The Orange shot 59 percent from the field, knocked down 15-of-28 3-pointers, and finished with 34 assists on 37 buckets, but Boeheim wasn’t ready to celebrate. “We made some shots tonight. We’re still making some mistakes we want to eliminate,” said the veteran Orange coach, whose team has two more games remaining before beginning ACC play. The first of those two is a clash with the Red Storm, who are hoping to avoid a third straight defeat.
