The Denver Nuggets and the Washington Wizards will both be trying to pick up a win on Thursday when they battle at Verizon Center.
ABOUT THE NUGGETS (8-14): Chandler continued his torrid early-season play with 27 points and a season-high 15 rebounds against the Nets and has scored 20 or more points in five of his last seven contests. Expectations weren’t too high for the 29-year-old veteran after he missed all of last season due to hip surgery, but he is averaging a career-best 18.6 points in 20 games. Athletic swingman Will Barton has been on a roll since returning from an ankle injury, averaging 18.5 points and 7.3 rebounds over his last four contests.

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (7-13):
Wall’s huge performance against Orlando occurred in the second game of a back-to-back set, and it displays that his knees are fully healthy. Wall underwent surgery on both knees in the offseason and was being held out of back-to-backs earlier this season, but he averaged 38.5 points in this set against Brooklyn and Orlando. The frustration level Wall showed after the 52-point outburst had been building as the team has yet to mesh under new coach Scott Brooks and is allowing an average of 117.5 points over the last four games.

John Wall wasn’t the least bit happy after a career-best 52-point performance because his Washington Wizards continue to underachieve. Wall’s sensational effort didn’t even result in a victory and the Wizards, who possess a 7-13 record at the quarter pole of the NBA schedule, will attempt to start a turnaround when they host the Denver Nuggets on Thursday.

Wall’s superb showing came during a 124-116 loss to Orlando on Tuesday, and he scorched the efforts of his teammates after the contest. “Our job is to wake up and just play hard,” Wall told reporters. “Before you made it to the NBA or got a college scholarship, you played hard every day to get to where you wanted to. To still be talking about playing hard, that’s something that you should be able to do after just waking up. Everybody has a job and they have to go work hard. Our job is to come here and play hard and compete.” Denver has dropped six of its last eight games as it enters the fourth contest of a six-game road trip and trailed by 29 midway through the third quarter on Wednesday en route to a 116-111 loss to Brooklyn. “We were getting embarrassed,” forward Wilson Chandler told reporters afterward. “When your back is against the wall, you’ve got to do something. At the time, we had nothing to lose.”

Washington was a 124-116 loser in its last match at home against the Magic. They failed to cover the -3-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 240 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.

Denver was a 116-111 loser in its last match on the road against the Nets. They failed to cover the -4.5-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 227 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.
