The St. John’s Red Storm and the Tulane Green Wave will both be trying to pick up a win on Friday when they battle at Devlin Fieldhouse.

ABOUT ST. JOHN’S (2-5): Guard Federico Mussini admitted St. John’s looked past the Hornets after waging competitive battles against Michigan State and VCU a week ago. Against Delaware State, the Red Storm constantly settled for wild 3-point attempts, going 12-for-37 from beyond the arc, and didn’t visit the free-throw line in the second half. Freshmen Marcus LoVett (18.9 points per game) and Shamorie Ponds (15.3) continue to lead the Red Storm in scoring but the promising backcourt duo has thus far failed to ignite a selfish offense which ranks tied for 246th in the nation in assists at 12.7 through Wednesday’s games.

ABOUT TULANE (1-6): The Green Wave played only once at home as Kain Harris had a career-high 19 points in a dominating 93-76 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 14. Cameron Reynolds, a 6-7 slasher, leads three Green Wave players in double-figure scoring at 16.4 points per game but Tulane hasn’t played much defense, allowing an average of 80.4 points per game (tied for 306th nationally). Tulane also struggles on the backboards getting outrebounded by seven boards per game and dropped its most recent game to rival New Orleans 74-59 despite 18 points from Harris and 17 from senior guard Malik Morgan.

bovada-logo-top-book currently has the Red Storm listed as 4.5-point favorites versus the Green Wave, while the game’s total is sitting at 148.5 according to MyBookie-White logo -70x40.

St. John’s shows no signs of being able to rebound from its disastrous 2015-26 campaign when it lost 22 of its final 23 games. The Red Storm, who suffered their fifth straight loss last time out to lowly Delaware State at home, try to break the skid when they visit Tulane on Friday.

“Our defense was horrible, one-on-one and as a team,” St. John’s coach Chris Mullin told reporters after losing to a Delaware State team which hadn’t beaten a Division I team since 2014. “I thought we lost trust in each other.” Tulane could be the perfect place to turn things around as the Green Wave have also lost five straight – by an average of 12.4 points. Tulane is coached by another former NBA guard-turned coach in Mike Dunleavy, who is also trying to resurrect a program that finished last in its conference last season.

Tulane was a 74-59 loser in their most recent outing on the road against Privateers.

In their last action, St. John’s was a 79-72 loser at home against Hornets. They failed to cover the -22-point spread as favorites.
