Ito Smith scampered through the UTEP defense for 108 yards as Southern Miss handed the Miners a 34-7 defeat on Saturday at Sun Bowl.

The Golden Eagles were a -13.5-point favorite in the win, and managed to turn a profit for their supporters. The combined score dipped UNDER the total, which closed at 59.0.

Ito Smith rushed for 108 yards, while George Payne added 46 yards in the win. D.J. Thompson and Korey Robertson added 48 and 33 receiving yards respectively.

Aaron Jones rushed for 127 yards for UTEP, while Quadraiz Wadley added 35 yards. Ryan Metz threw for 51 yards for the Miners, while receivers Cole Freytag and Eddie Sinegal had 33 and 24 yards respectively.

Southern Miss outgained UTEP 378-258 yards in the game, while the battle of first downs was won 18-10 by the Golden Eagles.

UTEP lost the time of possession battle 32:28-27:32, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.

Southern Miss looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against Rice. UTEP will aim to get back on the winning track at LA Tech.
