Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott made comments about a recent conversation he had with Kobe Bryant, who said this could be his final season.

According to Scott they talked a few days ago and it was about a different subject, which the coach avoided to discuss, however, during this conversation the player said that he might be retiring from the NBA after this season, his 20th with the Lakers.

Scott said Sunday at Madison Square Garden before the team played against the New York Knicks, “that’s the first time that he hinted to me that this might be his last year.”

Bryant reaffirmed after the game that at this moment he hasn’t made a decision about his future yet and this will happen after this season. When the player was asked what would influence that decision, he said it’s “just desire, if I want to put my body through it again and continue to play.”

Scott said Bryant will probably start both games of the next back-to-back set, Tuesday in Miami and after this Wednesday in Orlando, because as Bryant told him, ” Coach, again, this might be my last year, so if possible, I would like to try to play every game.”

This is the final year of the 37-year-old player’s contract with the Lakers, and even though he has said that this might be his final year in the NBA, he hasn’t put a date yet.

Bryant said, “If you asked me today, this would be my last year. But you never know. We’ll keep it open. Whatever happens, happens.” on Saturday.
