The Cleveland Browns quarterback, Johnny Manziel is expected to be starting on Thursday.

Josh McCown, who is starting quarterback, might not be able to play because of a painful rib injury.

“I’m going to prepare and do everything that I can … to be ready to play,” McCown said Tuesday.

Mike Pettine, Brown’s coach has not made up his mind yet on who will play. “We’ll see where Josh is tonight,” Pettine said. “As we get information that helps us make a decision and we feel comfortable acting on it, we’ll do it.”

The Browns will meet the Cincinnati Bengals in less than a week, which gives McCown less time to recover and return in time to play.

“There’s different things here and there to try to help, but some of it gets chalked up under the pain tolerance type of thing,” McCown said. “And time more than anything. Right now we don’t have that on our side as far as this game or really this season, because you need probably a little longer than a few days or a few weeks to let this heal.”

McCown said he has played through comparable injuries before.

“You do your best to play through it as much as you can,” McCown said. “Like I said Sunday, as long as you can get yourself to a point where you don’t feel like it’s affecting your play or your throws, you’re good to go.”

Cleveland (2-6) might play without cornerback Joe Haden, Safety Donte Whitner and wide receiver Brian Hartline, they are dealing with the league’s concussion protocol.

Manziel has only played during this season in four games, however he only started one.
