After the team’s 27-6 loss against the St. Louis Rams, the San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula might be having second thoughts about starting Colin Kaepernick as the team’s quarterback.

“We’re evaluating everything right now,” Tomsula said Monday in his weekly media conference, after he was questioned about the team’s starting quarterback.

“We’re in the middle of it right now. I don’t have any comments on any position on our field right now. We are evaluating everybody.”

At this moment Blaine Gabbert is the 49ers backup quarterback.

In the past Tomsula was unmistakable supportive for Kaepernick, and if he decides not to be at this moment it might come across as the exact opposite.

“We’re evaluating everyone,” Tomsula said. “I’m not going to have any further comment. I’m just telling you that we are evaluating everyone.”

During the game against the Rams, Kaepernick completed 20 of 41 passes for 162 yards and was sacked three times while rushing for a team-high 28 yards on six carries.  However, he was just 1-of-8 on passes thrown at least 15 yards downfield, with five off-target throws, and the Rams had allowed opponents to complete 54 percent of deep throws, the second-highest mark in the NFL.

Kaepernick also missed an uncovered Torrey Smith on the left sideline two snaps before the Niners were stuffed for a safety.

“Colin didn’t play good enough, and neither did the team,” Tomsula said. “The San Francisco 49ers didn’t play good enough.”

Even though by the end of the game, Kaepernick was playing without  the Niners’ top four running backs — Carlos Hyde(foot), Reggie Bush (knee), Jarryd Hayne (waived Saturday) and Mike Davis(hand) , and also leading receiver Anquan Boldin (hamstring).

“Not looking for excuses,” Tomsula said.

At this point the 49ers have the 32nd-ranked offense in the NFL, as a result, they have the fewest points scored in the league, and haven’t been able to score touchdown in eight quarters. Kaepernick has a 78.8 passer rating, he is 28th in the league.

When Kaepernick was asked about the possibility of the Niners changing QB he said, “To me, I’m doing everything I can to win games,” and “Whether they make that change or not is their decision. But I’ll give this team everything I have every week.”
