Yoenis Cespedes has shown improvement with his ailing left shoulder, so the New York Mets have decided to let him play Game 1 of the World Series.

“I feel much better. I’m not 100 percent, but I know I’ll be ready for Tuesday,” Cespedes said. “The cortisone shot relieved the pain and inflammation. But even if I’m not 100 percent, I am certain I will play on Tuesday.”

“The doctor told me my AC joint is a bit swollen, and that’s why it hurt. It happens to many athletes, but it is not a serious injury, and will heal quickly.”

Cespedes received a cortisone injection a day after the Mets won the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs. He left the game in the second inning, and could not lift his left arm.

The player was able to practice with his teammates Sunday in Kansas City, and he assured his injury was not related to Golfing in suburban Chicago the morning of Game 4 of the NLCS.

“The first question the doctor asked me after leaving the game was if I had been doing push-ups. I never like to do push-ups, but the visiting clubhouse in Chicago has no gym, so those two days I did push-ups,” Cespedes said. “This has nothing to do with playing golf. As you know, this year, and when I was with Oakland last year, I played golf almost every day before games, and I never got injured.” The player feels “very relaxed” and is looking forward to play his first WS.

“I have to approach it as a game like any other game — certainly with more media and fans, but it’s just another game from my point of view,” Cespedes said. “Going to the World Series is the greatest thing that can happen to a baseball player, but my approach is that it’s just another game, and I see it that way — just go out there and have fun.”

According to him, “Kansas City is a tremendous team, relentless, and they fight until the very last out, but they have not faced pitchers like the ones we have in our rotation,”
