The Kansas City Royals fan who caught Mike Moustakas home run when he was sitting in the party deck at Kauffman Stadium on Friday night’s Game of the American League Championship Series, said the ball would have cleared the wall anyways.

Caleb Humphreys, the 19 years old fan from Blue Springs, Missouri grabbed the ball during the second inning, his only thought was whether the ball had the distance to leave the park.

The umpires immediately assumed it was a home run, but right fielder Jose Bautista protested their decision. The Blue Jays immediately asked for a replay review, and umpires concentrated during the replay, but upheld the home run call.

“It was gone,” Humphreys explained. “He hit a legit home run. I just tried to give him a little extra support.”

Humphreys was not only afraid that the home run would be taken away, but also that they would give the Blue Jays the out.

When they decided to replay it, I just sat down and said, ‘If they overturn this, I’m never going to forgive myself,'” he said. “I was just shaking and hoping they would keep it a home run.”

When they asked him if he had some trouble catching the ball, the sophomore at Blue River Community College said he no longer plays baseball, but has 14 years of experience in the sport.

“It was a pretty routine play,” said Humphreys,”I was a pitcher. But we pitchers do it all.”
