Later on Friday, the announcement will be made naming Scott Servais as the new manager of the Seattle Mariners.

Servais, worked as assistant general manager for the Angels, he was one of the finalists, including Red Sox special assistant Jason Varitek and minor league manager Phil Nevin. Several media reports informed that he will replace Lloyd McClendon, who was fired after two seasons as Seattle’s manager, earlier this month.

Jerry Dipoto, Mariners general manager and Servais worked together with the Angles, there Dipoto worked as GM and Servais supervised scouting and player development.

Dipoto moved to Seattle, leaving behind an unsteady relationship with the Angels and manager Mike Scioscia over the summer. Dipoto and Servais shared much the same organizational philosophy in the Angels organization, this is why we were not surprised to see them re-team again.

The Mariners have the longest postseason absence of the Major League Baseball, they haven’t been in the playoffs since 2001.  The Bills are the only team in any of the four major sports with a longer absence; the last time they made it to the playoffs was in 1999.

Servais worked at the Angels’ assistant GM during four seasons. Before this, from 2006-2011 he was the Texas Rangers’ senior director of player development.  For 11 major league seasons Servais was a catcher for four teams, and also was a member of the USA team that won gold in the 1988 Olympic Games.
