The Chicago Bears signed defensive lineman Ziggy Hood, after letting veteran Jeremiah Ratliff go. The announcement was made Thursday.

“We felt moving forward without Jeremiah was in the best interest of our team,” Bears general manager Ryan Pace said in a statement. “We appreciate his contributions and wish him well.”

Ratliff, was seen dressed in Bear’s warm-up clothes, having an energetic conversation with Pace in front of Halas Hall around 11:30 a.m. CT, while the rest of the team was practicing on the field.

The exact content of their conversation was not told, but there were two team security guards standing close to them.

The two men were later seen reentering the building together, but after this Ratliff was observed walking up the driveway next to the complex in different clothes.

The player was suspended by the NFL the first three games of the regular season because he broke the league’s substance abuse policy. In 2013 Ratliff pleaded guilty to a DWI charge in Texas, and he also missed Bears’ Week 4 game against the Raiders, because during the preseason the player suffered an ankle injury.

Ratliff, who started a combined 102 games for the Bears and Cowboys, is a four-time Pro Bowler (2008-11).
