Carlos Hyde will play against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night with what the player describes as a stress fracture in his sore left foot.

Hyde is the starting replacement for free-agent departure Frank Gore, and has rushed for 430 yards and three touchdowns on 104 carries during his first season. The player recognized the pain in his foot, after Sunday’s 25-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Hyde crushed on the field untouched at one point, but he did return.

“I just put too much pressure, too much weight on it,” the player said after rushing for 55 yards on 21 carries against the Ravens. “It hurts when I put too much weight on it.”

“It just shocked me how bad it hurt when I tried to put too much weight on it, and I just went down.”

According to coach Jim Tomsula “I don’t know the whole thing, but his foot’s sore. I don’t want to put a medical label on it but he’s sore in there. I guess it’s a bruise. He’s got an orthotic in there. They’re working through it that way, and we’re just managing it with the pounding in practice.”

The Niners have other options, like Reggie Bush, he can play as Hyde’s backup, or they can also activate fourth-round draft pick Mike Davis over Australian rugby league convert Jarryd Hayne.
