New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells, has been struggling with MRSA, a dangerous bacteria. The player had a seventh surgery on his foot Saturday, but needs two more.

According to his agent Ron Slavin, doctors think they have the infection under control. But still, they will perform more surgeries, in addition to clean out the infected area, and make sure the infection does not return. Doctors will also perform plastic surgery on the area of his foot that was damaged by the infection.

Slavin said, the player hopes to leave the hospital by the end of this week or early next week. The two additional procedures will take place after he’s discharged from the hospital, this because doctors want to allow his feet to heal more before the two procedures.

According to Slavin, last 17 days have been “a roller coaster for [Fells] emotionally.” Fells has two children between ages 2 and 4, they haven’t been able to see their father because Fells and his wife, Nahall, don’t want them to see how he looks right now. Nahall has been by his bedside every night in a recliner.

The Giants won their game against the 49ers last Sunday, and dedicated their victory to him, his teammates also presented him a game ball via Skype on Monday.

Fells, who has been on season-ending injured reserve since Oct. 5, plans to watch Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles from his hospital room.
