The whole stadium was euphoric after Hector Rondon delivered the pitch that gave the Chicago Cubs a 6-4 win against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night. Fans filled the stadium with cheers, and tears of joy after watching their team win and advance to the NLCS for the first time since 2003.

Cubs’ owner Tom Ricketts said, standing on the infield grass, “Nobody here will ever forget that they were here, and that’s amazing.” Players like Ernie Banks, and Fergie Jenkins never got to experience this emotion, but Kyle Schwarber (22 years old), Anthony Rizzo (22 years old) and Javier Baez (22 years old) proudly did.

In the second inning Baez hit a home run, while Rizzo pounded a shot into the right-field bleachers in the sixth, and then came Schwarber with an amazing home run that landed on the moon. Even veteran catcher David Ross was amazed, he said “That one might be in that lake out there.” These kids were born more than 80 years after the Cubs last won a World Series, and now they have the opportunity to make history again.

According to Cubs president Theo Epstein, “They’re doing this for each other. The pressure and the history don’t matter to them. They were in Instructional League last year. You think they’re worried about history? They were just worried about getting their laundry done.” The team has hit 10 home runs in this series, this is the most home runs hit in a Division Series that went four games or less.
