It looks like Jon Lester will start pitching on Saturday against the New York Mets or Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Cubs pitching coach Chris Bosio, “Right now it’s probably going to be Jon because it’s his turn.”

Lester pitched in Game 1 of the division series victory against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, and on Game 3 Monday Jake Arrieta pitched. If Lester throws on Saturday, it will give Arrieta an extra day to rest before Game 2 on Sunday.

According to Bosio “Joe (Maddon) doesn’t want us to change a lot of stuff,” and “That’s why I don’t see us doing anything real crazy. There’s a comfort level with their work days, which for me is really important. Each of these guys has a routine.”

Till the moment it is not official, the team will meet on Wednesday to plan the next step, on Thursday they will hold a workout at Wrigley Field, and probably announce their starters for at least the first two games of the series.

If the team decides that Lester will start Game 1 on Saturday, this probably means Arrieta will start Games 2 and then 6, this will give him five days between those two starts. On Monday’s game against the Cardinals, Arrieta gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Manager Joe Maddon said “I didn’t think he was stressed physically,” he also said “I just think he was off mechanically.” The Cubs have relied on Arrieta to pitch in all the important games, including a wild card game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

If everything goes according to Bosio’s reasoning Kyle Hendricks would start in Game 3, and Jason Hammel would be called for Game 4, and this would leave Hendricks for Game 7.
