USF offensive lineman Benjamin Knox charged with firing gun on campus

Benjamin Knox South Florida offensive lineman was charged with firing a gun at the exterior of a residence hall on campus, this accusation lead to a suspension from all team activities. According to the athletic department’s statement they are “working with the proper authorities” to investigate an incident that occurred early Sunday.

The 21 years old player, is a red-shirt freshman reserve who has participated in all USF’s games this season. The campus police opened an investigation after receiving reports of gunfire, and said the exterior of the dormitory where the player lives was hit, but fortunately there are no reports of injured people.

According to Hillsborough County jail records Knox was accused of discharging a firearm on school property and shooting at or into an occupied building. His bond was set at 32,500.

The team lost earlier this month, 24-17 against the Memphis Tigers. According to his coach Willie Taggert, “I feel like our guys got better,” but “We just didn’t do the things we needed to do to finish the job.”
