Joe Philbin is the second N.F.L. coach in two years to lose his job immediately after losing a game in London. The Dolphins decided he could not be part of the team after the 1-3 start in a season that was proclaimed as a shift year for the franchise.

The Dolphins made big changes and spent a great amount in the off-season, they signed defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh, resigned center Mike Pouncey, and gave quarterback Ryan Tannehill a long-term contract, apart from this they spent more than $400 million to upgrade the team’s stadium.

They had a positive season-opening game against Washington, but after this, they lost to the Jaguars in Jacksonville, and the Buffalo Bills, in London they lost 27-14 to the Jets. Joe Philbin was 24-28 as a coach and never made it to the playoffs with The Dolphins. Apparently the tough losses to drop the Dolphins into last place were too much for Steve Ross, the team owner.
