The Dodgers pitcher needed to strike out six batters to reach 300 for the season, this hasn’t been done in 13 years in the M.L.B. With the approach of the first round of the postseason against the Mets, he was not going to stay around very long. But he made it, striking out seven San Diego Padres, he got two standing ovations from Dodgers fans. Kershaw ended the 2015 regular season with a 16-7 record, a 2.13 E.R.A., a WHIP of 0.88 and a strikeout total of 301.

The 300 strikeouts in a season record were last time achieved by pitchers Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling, back in 2002, while they were teammates on the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the last Dodger to get it was, Sandy Koufax, in 1963, 1965 and 1966.

According to Kershaw, “It’s obviously not the most important thing in the world, but definitely something that when you’re looking back and your career is said and done, you’ll get to say you did that once. Pretty cool.”

He’s getting ready for Friday’s start against the Mets.
