Brent Stockstill’s 330-yard performance through the air was the key in Illinois’s 27-25 win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Illinois did not, however, defeat the Blue Raiders against the spread, which closed at -3.5 at most sportsbooks. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go UNDER the closing number of 62.0.
Brent Stockstill completed 29 of 42 pass attempts for 330 yards for the Fighting Illini in the win.
Josh Ferguson rushed for 83 yards for Middle Tennessee, while Ke’Shawn Vaughn added 80 yards. Wes Lunt threw for 238 yards for the Blue Raiders, while receivers Geronimo Allison and Desmond Cain had 128 and 48 yards respectively.
Middle Tennessee lost the offensive yardage battle to Illinois 378-368 yards in Saturday’s game. Illinois had more first downs as that total ended up 25-19.
Illinois lost the time of possession battle 30:42-29:18, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.
Illinois heads into a Week 5 battle against Nebraska. Middle Tennessee, meanwhile, will have their next action against Vanderbilt.
