Last season K.J. McDaniels played ten games for the Houston Rockets and as of Sunday McDaniels extended his contract for a $10 million over 3 years deal.

Hardly playing as a freshman, McDaniels was a starting wing in the ACC, and that is when he started establishing himself, but no one noticed him due to the fact that he was playing for the not so good Tigers team who lost 10 out of 11 games, finishing the season 13 to 18.

He really started taking off as a junior, becoming the irrefutable star of the uprising Clemson Tigers who finished 23 to 13 in his final season of college, averaging 17.1 points, 2.8 blocks, and 7.1 rebounds and he was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Interesting how McDaniels refused the initial 76ers offer being a 4 year contract with 2 years not guaranteed, instead he decided on one year non guaranteed for $507,000, making him a restricted free agent the following season, which meant that to even retain the right of matching any offer, Philadelphia would have to extend a $1.2 million tender. Quite a bold move don’t you agree?

It seems that K.J. McDaniels betted on himself and he won.
