At the end of June, Dan Connolly announced his possible retirement. A few weeks later, the offensive lineman has made this decision.
“It’s important to me to leave the game healthy. I’m able to be here for my kids and walk away on my own terms. I feel like I got everything I could out of football in playing 10 years, winning a Super Bowl, and playing alongside some truly great players.”
Concerned for his health due to several diagnoses of concussions, four of which were from his NFL seasons, the now veteran offensive lineman is at ease with his decision, more so now after winning the title, last February, against the Seattle Seahawks.
It’s a grand finale that made his choice of leaving the New England Patriots rather simple.
“This win has definitely played a role, it helped me sleep better, to be at peace with myself.”
His decision is rather a sensible one, choosing to be a family man and wanting to be there for his children, he’s not the only NFL player who decided to retire after concussion concerns, we can remember, linebacker, Chris Borland of the San Francisco 49ers who retired at only 24 years of age.
Now 32 years old, Dan Connolly says farewell to the NFL.
