A $59.25 million over 6 year deal was signed between defensive end Cam Heyward and the Pittsburgh Steelers and although his future was never really at stake, a long term contract for Heyward became a Steelers priority.

The Pittsburgh Steelers has undergone important changes over the summer such as linebackers coach Keith Butler, replacing Hall of Fame defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau, cornerback Ike Taylor and safety Troy Polamalu retired and Brett Keisel who was Heymard’s mentor was let go off.

Cam Heyward is now filling bigger shoes by becoming a mentor to second year end Stephon Tuitt, much like Brett Keisl was his.

In joining Roethlisberger, center Maurkice Pouncey and wide receiver Antonio Brown, the Pittsburgh Steelers is rebuilding what once was an NFL elite franchise.

“I think a lot of younger guys took a lot of big steps this year,” Heyward said after a wild-card loss to Baltimore in January. ”We have to continue to make steps if we want to make the ultimate goal.”
