And it’s another done deal for the Kansas City Chiefs who signed, perhaps, the most lucrative deal in its history. A $101 million over 6 years, including a $52.5 million in guarantees, with linebacker Justin Houston, was signed today before the 4:00 pm Eastern Time deadline.

“I want to be known as one of the best to ever play the game,” Houston said on a conference call Wednesday. “That’s my motivation.”

For No. 27 in the 2015 Top 100 list, Houston’s contract screams, loud and clear, his status as the richest among the NFL.

It goes without saying that he plays a pivotal role as defense, and now that he’s free of status ambiguity, he’ll definitely be chasing Micheal Strahan’s one season sack record.

“Once you get paid, it’s not like you won the lottery,” Houston said Wednesday. “You still got work to do. You still have to prove yourself. You can still get better each and every day so that’s my goal.”

Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey comments. “He’s one of the top players in the National Football League and a premier pass rusher. As we’ve said from the beginning, Justin the football player, and the person, is someone we wanted to be a part of our organization. We are very happy that he will remain a member of the Chiefs.”
