Coming back from 2 operations on his broken right ankle, 6’8” forward Damien Inglis did not play in any competitive game for a little over a year. Feeling quite jittery about stepping on the court, he considered his day a success, though he limped off the floor in the third quarter.

“I was really nervous getting on the bus,” said Inglis. “I didn’t know if I would end up in the game, but I’m very happy right now. I played as much as I could right now, and I played with my teammates. That was good for me.”

His first surgery was taking place in France last year, but the healing did not result as anticipated, he then had a second surgery in January. It was during a predraft workout with the Oklahoma City that he suffered his injury.

“It’s the process and journey of him going forward and getting better, and I thought this was a good start for him,” Bucks coach Jason Kidd said.

There was some discomfort while young Damien was on the court, at one point he took off his right shoe after the second quarter, not returning to the floor but remaining on the bench he still did pretty good while playing. Scoring 2 baskets in the first half, forcing a 24 second violation with a strong defense, finishing with 4 points 3 fouls and 2 rebounds in 11 minutes.

“I’ve been through a lot,” Inglis said. “Now, as I’m on the court, I just have to forget about that and go out there and play. That’s all that matters right now, playing hard.”

In the second quarter, spotting Kevin Jones cutting to the basket, Damien did a bounce pass that led to 2 points,

“I tried to get into my game, into my flow,” Inglis said. “Once I got into it, I could find my teammates. “That’s easy. When guys are moving the ball, they let me do my thing. I try to find them every time I can.”

We have to admire his mental strength, instead of folding and simply turn the page after such an ordeal , this young player refuses to think negatively and, he strongly believes he’ll be ready for training camp.
